Lena Gabrielle has worked in fields from comedy to cabaret, performing onstage and in concert, and writing, orchestrating, and music directing theatre. Growing up just outside of Rochester, NY, she rose to prominence online in 2007 as singer/songwriter for The Butterbeer Experience, a musical tribute to the Harry Potter fandom. In between releases, she also performed as a solo artist, touring the country and collaborating with actors such as Darren Criss and Chris Rankin. During her Butterbeer Experience days, she began writing for the stage, composing musicals and operas about the Harry Potter universe and rehearsing them primarily online with casts of volunteers.
After graduating from Ithaca College and living briefly in Portland, OR, and New York City, Lena became in-house composer and orchestrator for Stage Right Theatricals, a Pittsburgh-based initiative for producing new family theatre. She premiered "Little Red" in January of 2014 and "Sleeping Beauty" in September of the same year, both with book by Anthony Marino and lyrics and additional dialogue by Greg Kerestan. Her final original musical with Stage Right Theatricals, “Tink” (also a collaboration with Marino and Kerestan) was produced at NYMF 2016 and received an award for excellence in family theatre.
Since moving back to New York City in 2015, Lena primarily works as a music director, orchestrator, and arranger for new theatre. In 2017, she served as music director and arranger for “Endangered: The Eco-Musical” which boasted a six-month off-broadway run. In addition to her work in theatre, Lena is a vocal coach, early childhood music educator, and violinist with several bands. A strong advocate for mental health awareness, she continues to develop her musical about living with and embracing mental illness.
